Avoid the Waves at Cane Bay. Visited: October 2008

Don’t let the staged web site photos fool you. This place is involved in a very slow renovation, and there’s only a few adequate rooms that are marginal.

The window AC units barely cool the rooms. Also, there are no screens on the rusty sliders, so you’re restricted to the semi-conditioned air and most doors, windows, etc. are poorly installed - or will just fall off in your hands if not careful.

Mosquitos are vicious here, and will haunt you all night long as they creep between the many gaps to find you. It’s very remote here, so the cell phone reception is non-existent. However, the Internet connection is strong, so have your Skype account charged up.

The restaurant is pricy, and you may be the only people there with the crashing waves to one side and the rowdy dice slammers to the other at the bar.

The owners live on the mainland, so they assigned their lazy daughter to manage the place. It's a great call if you desire a raucous, hootin’ & hollerin’ party atmosphere most days at odd hours with groupies hanging out and drinking with the manager. Don’t expect any standard professional hospitality or common courtesy, either. She is careless, and others in the business on St. Croix will verify that.

Obviously, I do not recommend it.

I thought it was crummy. Visited: July 2008

The off season rate here was as high as any hotel around. However, my room was very uncomfortable. The bed was great, though.

Also, the sliding doors to the balcony wouldn't close completely, and the handle was missing (which left a hole for mosquitos to enter). The window AC unit was very loud, and kept the room only so-so cool. The kitchen was dark and sticky, and the dishes were not clean.

The manager simply said they were in the process of renovation. I couldn't possibly enjoy the setting in such a tacky room. I wish I had taken pictures.

We were very satisfied with our stay. Visited: February 2008

We stayed a bit over two weeks, and loved this place.

Our room was large and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. We also had a gorgeous view, and the maid service came three times a week - what's not to love?

We had a full size fridge, a small oven and four-burner stove, a microwave, and a coffee pot. It was located between other beach bars we could easily walk to.

Our only regret was we left just before the grand re-opening of the restaurant. A lot of time and money must have been invested in preparation for the big event. They hired a chef with a great reputation, and we will definitely head there once back in St. Croix.

I would recommend Waves at Cane Bay as a great place to stay.

how old are the pictures? Visited: July 2005

The Waves was not all that the pictures and their website portrayed. The room we stayed in was run down, with only a small window AC unit that could not cool the room. The bathroom didn’t have much light and didn’t appear very clean, even in the dark. Parking was tight at times and there was a mound of trash toward the end of the parking area. We did not eat at the restaurant, because of its shabby appearance. The Waves does have a wonderful view to the northwest to get an excellent view of the sunset however we chose to find another resort before the weather could provide a decent sunset. Unless you are a diver who isn’t too discriminating of where they stay, there are better places on the island to stay for the same price. Overall the Waves looks like it hasn’t been taken care of since the pictures on its website were taken several years ago.

What a gorgeous view! Visited: August 2004

We stayed here for ten glorious days! The sound of the waves crashing greeted us every morning and lulled us to sleep at night. The view was breathtaking, and we enjoyed the best sunset on the island, we watched from the restaurant!

The rooms were comfortable, and the balcony was private. We did rent a Jeep, but didn't find it to be a burden to go anywhere. We learned the island that way! Victoria and her team were fabulous, very accommodating. We will definitely stay again!

Waves at Cane Bay boasted crashing waves, fantastic views, and lovely dining Visited: April 2003

We stayed in the separate studio and found it well equipped and comfortable. The restaurant was open for dinner only, but was very good, if not a bit pricy.

The pool was carved into the coral and provided a unique experience, but the lounging area was small. Beware, light sleepers, the waves crashed loud and hard all night! We enjoyed our stay, but decided to stay somewhere a little more centralized, and quieter this year.

The Waves is a perfect paradise. Visited: November 1999

The Waves was just the accommodation we were looking for. The surroundings were pristine, the hotel itself was charming, and most of all, Kevin and Suzanne were very friendly and helpful. Kevin was very knowledgeable on the diving in the area, and Suzanne made the both of us feel right at home.

For avid divers, we both thought the dive facilities were wonderful, including the handy storage lockers for our dive gear, and all the the equipment we needed was close at hand.

We would highly recommend this spot for divers and non-divers alike. And you can also bet that we'll be back to the Waves!

We couldn't have done better than The Waves at Cane Bay. Visited: November 1999

The Waves is a beautiful hotel, but what makes it special is the personalized service and friendliness of the Ryans. We went to dive - and Kevin Ryan gave us personalized service. His vast experience diving in the area was obvious after the first dive briefing. The availability of tanks and weights from the dive shop at the hotel allowed us to dive as much as we wanted.

For us, staying at the hotel and visiting local establishments by walking was enough. We cooked meals in our rooms and on the grill overlooking the ocean.

A most relaxing and enjoyable place to be! Visited: November 1999

The Waves at Cane Bay is a breathtaking and spectacular resort run by people who care about their customers. Kevin and Suzanne provide exciting ideas for things to do around the island, if that is what you choose, or leave you alone to enjoy solitude and relaxation.

The restaurant is an added treat for those of us who spend all day on the beach and in the sun. We are too tired to think about cooking a meal. The food is creative and quite tasty.

St. Croix and The Waves at Cane Bay provide my friends and I with a fun and beautiful place to meet every year.
